FIXING MOBILE HOME SOFT SPOTS

Having a soft spot in your mobile home is very alarming. Question is, do you know how to fix it? Catch the problem early to maintain your home’s worth, beauty, and value.

Here are some tips that will surely help you:

-Know the cause of soft spots in your mobile home floors. Water leaks and exposure to moisture repeatedly are most common cause of it. That is why it is very important to find any source of water that might be contributing to the problem.

-Check your bathroom appliances, some of the household appliances, and windows too. Soft spots in the bathroom floors are usually caused by leaks from the sink, bathtub, or toilet. When you find the culprit, make sure you have them fixed right away to avoid bigger problem.

-Washing machines can also be the cause of water leaks. So, if you notice any soft spots near your washing machine, inspect it right away if there is any leakage. As well as windows because it can allow water to run down onto the floor. When this happens, simply seal the small gaps around the windowpanes with caulk.

-Soft spots can form anywhere. So, make sure to always clean water spills right away especially in areas near standing water.

-When you are dealing with your floor covering and trim, make sure to clear away whatever is covering the floor. Whether you are using carpet, linoleum, vinyl, or tile, you need to cut them away.

-Next is to cut the subflooring away from the outer edges of the room. Make sure you use a circular saw for this. Find out first the thickness of the subfloor, so you can set the depth of your saw blade appropriately, and to avoid slicing into your joists.

-Then remove the subfloor per section. Cut each section out by sawing in between the joists beneath the floor. Make sure you do not damage any pipes or wiring before you start cutting away. Check for any damage to the joists and fix it if there is.

-At this point, you can now put the new subfloor. Make sure to install them correctly by using the right size for the room you are re-flooring by measuring them correctly. Affix extra boards between the joists, to give you something to attach your flooring to and to strengthen the new floor. Make sure the floor is level.

-And lastly, install a new cover for the floor. Good Job!
